Tennis Courts Updated…Ready for the Blue Devils to Dominate

September 10, 2012

Over the summer, the Haldane tennis courts received a much needed renovation. For years the courts were cracked, in a state of disrepair and underutilized by the school and community at large. Thanks to two state grants,  Haldane now has tennis courts it can be proud of. The cracks were repaired and the entire surface received a new armor plating in order to ensure they stay in excellent condition for many years to come. And best of all, they are now the right color…..Haldane Blue!! If the first few weeks are any indication, this was money well spent. The community has flocked to the new courts and they are in constant use. The Blue Devil Tennis team is excited to use the momentum of their new courts to spur them on to a fantastic season. Come out and support our Haldane tennis team!

2011 Sectional Championship Teams Hope for Repeat

September 10, 2012

In the fall of 2011, Haldane had four teams that won sectional championships, an amazing accomplishment for such a small school. As the fall 2012 season nears, who will repeat as Sectional Champions?

The Blue Devil Football team will have to overcome the loss of 15 seniors and will be facing a tougher schedule than last year. Coach Jeff Sniffen feels the talent is there,  but this year’s team will have to learn to deal with adversity and overcome that with pride and toughness. The offensive line, with 4 new faces, will be key. The Blue Devil spread offense works, when the line does its job. Bronxville, Dobbs Ferry and a talented team from Tuckahoe will all test this team. Quarterback Bailey Semple and running back Will Moss will look to put up points with the same regularity as the 2011 version of the spread offense did.

The Blue Devil Volleyball team eventually went all the way last year and won the New York State Championships! This years’ squad has stopped celebrating and is all business as it prepares to defend its’ crown. Coach Rosanno expects big things from several key players this year including Lauren Etta, Gabby Carnabucci, Becky Garrison and Kelly Vahos.

The Blue Devil Girls’ soccer team looks towards the 2012 campaign with anticipation. After losing  key players, Coach Gary VanAsselt is optimistic that the upcoming stars like Jess Harrison, Laura Kearns and Carolyn Schaefer can be critical to a successful campaign. Cali Schweikhart will be replacing longtime goalie standout Judi Barcavage and looks to put her stamp on that key role for the next two years.

The Haldane Cross Country Team is looking for big results this year as well. While the boys were crowned sectional champions last year, the girls team missed that honor by 1 point. Coach Locasci looks to win two sectional crowns this year and will be counting on Captains Rick Valentine and John Hughes to lead the way, along with Theo Henderson and Rachel Conklin, Samantha Ricketts and Emilie Procario.

Blue Devil Fall Teams Prepare for Action

September 10, 2012

As summer comes to a close, athletes from Haldane have begun their preparation for the upcoming fall season. This fall, varsity teams from Haldane will compete in Football, Volleyball, Girls’ and Boys’ Soccer, Tennis and Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country. All of  these teams had outstanding campaigns last fall and look to build on that success. Section One rules dictate when the athletes can begin practicing with their teams and coaches, but there are always a few dedicated team captains who organize informal practices and workouts. Given the heat that this August has brought, their dedication is admirable, and should result in an exciting fall.   GO BLUE DEVILS!!!

2012 Blue Devil Booster Club “Hero Award” Presented to B & L Deli

August 23, 2012

In 2012, the Blue Devil Booster Club began a new tradition: presenting the “Hero Award” to a deserving local supporter of Haldane and its student-athletes. We have so many local merchants that donate generously every time they are asked to the various teams and clubs at Haldane. There are some however that deserve special recognition, because through their generosity and community spirit, they are truly heroes to our Blue Devil athletes.

The very first Blue Devil Booster Club Hero Award was presented this spring to Bob and Loren from B & L Deli. Bob and Loren do so much for our teams, athletes and the community as a whole and we felt they were deserving recipients of our new recognition.

Bob was in attendance to receive his “Hero” award, and we all could tell he was truly moved.

Congratulations B & L Deli of Cold Spring, NY for winning the 2012 Blue Devil Booster Club Hero Award!

A special thank you to B & L Deli from the whole Haldane Community!
